Permanent Jewelry FAQs
permanent jewelry
What is permanent jewelry?
Permanent jewelry is a custom-fitted bracelet, anklet, necklace, or ring connected with a small welded link instead of a traditional clasp. It’s designed for everyday wear—your favorite sparkle, minus the clasp struggle!
Does getting permanent jewelry hurt?
No! We weld the small connecting link, not your skin. A protective barrier sits between your skin and the welding area.
Is permanent jewelry actually permanent?
“Permanent” means it doesn’t have a clasp. You can remove it when needed by cutting the connecting link. Save your chain so we can help you put it back on later.
Can permanent jewelry break?
Yes. Permanent jewelry is delicate jewelry, and enough pulling or snagging can cause a link or the chain to break. Clasp-free doesn’t mean unbreakable!
Why is it important that a chain can break?
A chain that gives way under tension may help reduce the risk of injury if it gets caught. However, permanent jewelry is not a certified safety-release device, and no chain is guaranteed to break at a specific force.
Does a broken bracelet mean the weld was bad?
Not necessarily. A break can happen at the connecting link or elsewhere along the chain. Snags, repeated pulling, and everyday wear can all contribute. Bring your piece in so we can assess it.
What should I do if my permanent jewelry breaks?
Save the chain and contact us! At The Greenville Spark, we offer free rewelds for our permanent jewelry customers. If the chain itself is damaged or a piece is missing, we’ll explain your repair options.
Can I shower and exercise with permanent jewelry?
Our jewelry is intended for everyday wear, including showering. Rinse away soap and sweat, and dry gently. For activities where jewelry could catch on equipment, follow the activity’s jewelry rules and remove it when needed.
How do I clean my permanent jewelry?
Gently clean it with mild soap, warm water, and a soft cloth. Rinse and dry thoroughly. Sterling silver may need occasional polishing, and care can vary for gemstone or specialty chains.
What metals do you offer?
The Greenville Spark offers gold filled, sterling silver, rose gold filled, and 14k solid gold options. We do not use gold plated or stainless steel chains for permanent jewelry.
Can I choose a clasp instead?
Absolutely! A clasp is a great option if you prefer to remove your jewelry regularly. You can still enjoy a custom fit and choose a chain you love.
Do I need an appointment?
Walk-ins are welcome at The Greenville Spark! Appointments receive priority, so booking ahead is a great option when you have a specific time in mind.
